• Use a cloth or paper towel to clean off the sidewall of the tire or inflatable you are getting ready to inflate;
• Check the item for the area that is printed on it which tells you the inflation pounds per square inch (PSI) that is the maximum for the item;
• If it is a tire, remove the valve stem cover and make sure the valve stem is clean from any dirt or debris before inflating;
• If the inflator air compressor has a thumb clasp lever, make sure it is in the up, or unattached, position;
• Line up the end of the inflator air compressor hose with the valve stem and press firmly onto the valve stem, then press the thumb clasp lever down to lock onto the valve stem;
• If you are inflating a ball or other item that requires a needle insert it into the the end of the hose and press the thumb clasp firmly down to lock in place, the insert into the needle hole;
• Turn the air compressor on and watch the pressure gauge. When the tank exceeds the amount of air pressure you need by about 20% turn the air compressor off;
• Inflate the object you are working on and then return the portable air compressor to where you store it;
• If using a larger portable air compressor with air tools, make sure everything is clean before using;
• Always be careful using air tools as they are more powerful than conventional tools, and can injure you if not used properly;
• Air tools provide a great deal of flexibility for using your portable air compressor and can assist you on many do-it-yourself projects around the home.

We all drive our automobiles a lot, whether going back and forth to work, shopping for household needs or taking our children to school, sports events or to visit friends. Most of us never give a thought to our tires, and yet when we go to replace them we are shocked at the costs.

As the price of gasoline continues to creep up and past $ 3.00/gallon, and with President Obama’s desire to increase the cost of gasoline to $ 7 or $ 8 a gallon to reduce our carbon footprint, under inflated tires become not only a safety issue, but an economic issue as well.

The bottom line is that if you wait until your tire is visibly low before you check the inflation you will have wasted gas and caused damage to your tire, all the while losing tread life! Not a good thing at all!

The proper way to check your tire pressure is as follows:

• Check your tire pressure when the tires are cold;After you remove the valve stem cover clean it and the valve stem of any dirt or debris;
• Firmly press the head of the tire pressure gauge to the top of the valve stem and read the pressure;
• Know the tire’s recommended pressure and inflate to that pressure value;
• You can usually find the correct tire pressure on the placard in the door jam on the drivers side door:
• Remember, the pressure listed on the side of the tire is the maximum tire pressure, not the recommended tire pressure for this vehicle.

We recommend a 12-volt inflator with a needle for inflating sporting equipment and toys. These inflators can be used day or night for roadside emergency vehicle tire inflation.

Cordless inflators are the best of both worlds. They include rechargeable batteries, so you’re no longer tied to a power cord.

Plus, most cordless inflators include 12-volt and 120-volt adapters. In other words, you can recharge the batteries on the road or at home.
